Cositas focuses on the bright and vibrant Latinx youth culture of Los Angeles, whose history has been central to the life of this city. The costume design pulls from the styles of Puchacas, 1940s teen and young adult tastes in Latinx communities, and the beach party movies of the 1960s. It creates a space of joy, of tension, of exuberance. Cositas centers and celebrates brown and black bodies in a piece of history which often leaves them as footnotes.
